Family engagement is a foundational component of high quality preschool programs.  Engaging families from backgrounds different from our own requires educators to consider our own implicit biases and to understand the linguistic goals that families have for their children. Educators have to create space to integrate the families’ funds of knowledge and languages in meaningful ways in their routines, curriculum and events.  During this session, examples will provide a starting place to consider how to refine classrooms and program practices to engage families with an eye on equity.
