The Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Human Services developed this standardized training to address the requirements of the federal law, Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) to ensure a smooth and effective transition process is in place for children and their families who will be transitioning from Early Intervention into Early Childhood Special Education. This training will cover requirements regarding timeline, role responsibilities, transition process meetings, state forms, as well as vital partnerships, collaborative relationships and positive strategies.

Please note: This training will also include a one hour assignment on your own.  Participants will be required to view a LRE/Inclusion Module and complete a reflection form. Submission of the reflection form will be due within one week of the webinar.

Learner objectives

• Understand the requirements and the procedures of the transition process from Early Intervention to Early Childhood Special Education Services
• State the roles and responsibilities of the partners in transition: early intervention, early childhood education, and families. Recognize perspectives and expectations of the transition partners.
• Integrate effective strategies to ensure a smooth transition for children and families
